Dunwoody Pediatric Tooth Extractions

Pediatric Tooth Extractions
In Dunwoody

We understand that extractions can be scary for little ones. Pulling your child’s tooth is always the dentist’s last resort when restoring their smile. Our compassionate team is here to make your child’s extraction as painless as possible, so they can get back to thriving health.

What is Pediatric Tooth Extraction

Pediatric tooth extraction is a dental procedure used to safely remove a baby tooth or permanent tooth that cannot be saved. A child may need an extraction because of severe decay, infection, injury, overcrowding, or a baby tooth that has not fallen out naturally. Regular preventive dentistry visits can help identify cavities and other dental concerns before they become more serious. The dentist carefully examines the tooth and may take dental X-rays before recommending removal.

Before choosing extraction, the dentist may consider whether the tooth can be repaired through restorative dentistry. When removal is necessary, the area around the tooth is numbed to keep your child comfortable, and the tooth is gently removed using child-friendly techniques. After the procedure, the dentist provides clear aftercare instructions to support healing, reduce discomfort, and protect your child’s developing smile.

We explain why the extraction is needed, what to expect during the appointment, and how preventive treatments such as dental sealants can help protect your child’s other teeth from cavities.

The Benefits of Tooth Extractions

Eliminate Their Pain And Discomfort

A severely damaged, decayed, or infected tooth can cause lots of pain for your child, and distract them from school, play, and their normal day-to-day life. After their tooth has been extracted at our office, they’ll no longer be in pain, and they can resume their daily routine without discomfort.

Prevent More Complications

If your child has an infected tooth, the infection could spread if it’s left untreated, which could result in a life-threatening condition called “sepsis.” Or, if your teen’s wisdom teeth aren’t growing properly, they could have a higher risk of tooth decay, gum disease, or even misalignment of their teeth. When necessary, extractions can help prevent some serious oral health complications.

Get Peace Of Mind

You don’t want to worry about your child’s oral health. And with proper care from a pediatric dentist, like an extraction, you won’t have to. Your child is in good hands at our office, and we’ll come up with a treatment plan to restore their smile and to protect their oral health as they grow up.

The Extraction Process

Preparing For Extraction

To begin the process, your child’s pediatric dentist will clean and numb the area to ensure your child doesn’t feel any pain or discomfort throughout the procedure. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to make sure your child is comfortable and relaxed before and during the extraction process.

Loosening & Extracting The Tooth

Your child’s dentist will use special tools to loosen the tooth in its socket. Once the ligaments connecting the tooth to the socket have been weakened, they will use dental forceps to grab the tooth tightly and pull it out.

Recovery & Aftercare

Next, your child’s dentist will clean up and sanitize the treatment area to ensure it heals properly. If your child needs multiple extractions, this process will be repeated. Once their appointment is over, their dentist will give you a set of recovery instructions. Make sure your child follows these closely so that they heal quickly, and avoid postoperative complications.

Dr. Luke was amazing. My son was experiencing pain over the holiday weekend and Dr. Luke was able to fit us in same day as a new patient and he took the best care of my son. I am so happy to have found such a caring dentist. His staff was amazing and had activities for my other sons to be entertained. I look forward to future appointments because I know my babies are in the best hands with Dr. Luke.

Leigh-Ann

We had a lovely experience with Dr. Luke and the rest of the staff. Our daughter is neurodivergent and struggles with all of the stimulus that going to the dentist involves, but everyone was kind and warm and patient and it made for a no-drama visit. We couldn’t be happier!

Jaimie

We love this pediatric dentist!!We recently moved from out of state and needed a new ped dentist for our girls. Dr Luke and his entire staff is wonderful and we’re so glad we ended up here! My 3 year old had been to a dentist previously, but being her first visit to this office, everyone was so sweet and made her experience a memorable one (she was talking about it for weeks!)They have a separate room for little ones which was also nice. My 18 month old had never been to the dentist so it was a great first experience for her (and me!) Overall, couldn’t recommend Dr Luke and this practice more!

Coleen

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Luke for years and I couldn’t be happier that he’s taken over the practice upon Dr. Scott’s retirement. My kids grew up seeing Dr. Scott and she set a very high standard. Dr. Luke is the perfect fit to carry on her legacy of impeccable dental care for children. He’s got such a positive, easy going personality that puts kids at ease immediately. He’s a great addition to Dunwoody!

Christine Scott, DDS

I am honored and proud that Dr. Luke Robert is my successor at Dunwoody Pediatric Dentistry. He is an excellent pediatric dentist and more importantly he is a wonderful young man. I know that all our patients are in great hands and will receive excellent care with Dr. Luke.

Shweta

We had a wonderful experience with Dr. Luke for my 6-year-old daughter’s dental visit. Dr. Luke was incredibly patient, gentle, and made sure to explain everything in a way that was easy for my daughter to understand. He took the time to ease my nervousness and made the entire visit stress-free for me more than my daughter. 😀

The office is kid-friendly, with fun decorations and a relaxing atmosphere. My daughter left with a big smile, and she’s now excited about going back for her next check-up! I highly recommend Dr. Luke to any parents looking for a caring, professional dentist for their children.

Rebecca

Very, kid-friendly, kid-centric office and office staff. Dr. Luke is fantastic and let’s the kids develop a comfort level all on their own. He has thoughtfully created a family/baby/toddler room where mamas of young ones can go in with their kiddos and take the time they need to come around to warming up to having their teeth looked at by the dentist. Would highly recommend Dr.Luke to anyone with children!! We won’t be going anywhere else.

Alexi

Dr. Robert and his staff were absolutely wonderful with our girls ages 6 and 4! Very personable, swift, but still thorough in their cleaning and X-rays. Dr. Robert also set up a great play area for my 14-month old to play in while the girls got their teeth cleaned which was super helpful! Very happy with our dentist experience!

Jenna

Great service, and excellent tips on how to keep your smile bright!

Bayleigh

We have taken my daughter to see Dr. Luke Robert twice and have had such fantastic experiences. He was the first dentist my three year old saw and she had the best time. She's always asking if she can go see Dr. Luke! Dr. Luke and his staff were so kind and informative and were happy to answer any questions or concerns I had. We recommend Dunwoody Pediatric Dentistry to any of our friends who are looking for a dentist.
