Pediatric Oral Cancer ScreeningIn Dunwoody
At Dunwoody Pediatric Dentistry, we include gentle oral cancer screenings as part of your child’s preventive dental care. Our team carefully checks your child’s mouth, gums, and oral tissues for any unusual changes, helping support early detection and lifelong oral health.
What Is Pediatric Oral Cancer Screening?
Pediatric oral cancer screening is a quick and gentle examination that allows a pediatric dentist to check your child’s mouth for any unusual changes in the oral tissues. During routine dental visits, our team examines areas such as the lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, and other soft tissues to help maintain your child’s overall oral health.
While oral cancer is rare in children, regular screenings are an important part of preventive dentistry. These simple checks allow our team to monitor your child’s developing smile and recommend additional evaluation if anything unusual is noticed.

Pediatric Oral Cancer Screening in Dunwoody, GA
Review Your Child’s Oral Health History
Before the screening, our team reviews your child’s dental and medical history and discusses any concerns, symptoms, or changes parents may have noticed. This helps us better understand your child’s overall oral health needs.
Gentle Visual Examination
The dentist carefully examines your child’s lips, gums, tongue, cheeks, roof of the mouth, and other oral tissues. We look for unusual changes such as persistent sores, swelling, red or white patches, or other areas that may require monitoring.
Oral Tissue & Neck Evaluation
If needed, the dentist gently feels areas around the mouth, jaw, and neck to check for any unusual lumps, swelling, or changes that may not be visible during the visual exam. This step is quick, comfortable, and non-invasive.
Discuss Findings & Follow-Up Care
After the screening, our team explains the findings with parents and answers any questions. If an area needs additional evaluation, we will recommend the appropriate next steps or referral to a specialist for further assessment.
